Back here was the very beginning of the story of Find the Starlight.
This was the Prologue: Black and White:
On a blank white space, images began to appear unannounced.
Over several weeks, new images and items appeared with the message “Come back” repeated each time.
After ten items were shown, things stayed that way for a few weeks. Then they all vanished, and a new image of a couple appeared.
Over time, the image was covered with a child’s writing, after a figure appeared in the doorway in the background. Then the picture was covered with three cards: the two of hearts, then the Jack of Spades, then the King of Hearts (the Suicide King).
Then everything was gone, and a question appeared:
“Where is the ice?”
The ten items reappeared, but this time they were scattered and numbered.
And those who followed the faint mist of a story that was about to begin set out to find answers.

Q:The ice is under the table, the bird is on the wall, pennies are in the driveway, and there's screaming in the hall

sfmola

As you say.

May I ask how you came to know this?

Q:I "searched the problem". Meaning I googled the math problem written on the piece of paper. v=fwnar-rxaic. Found that was the YouTube reference to "Call Me Maybe". Noticed there were ten numbers on the pictures, and there are ten numbers in a phone number. So I tried looking for patterns in the pictures. The phone number went in the order the pictures have been posted over time. I called the number, and the voice I heard told me that answer.

Well done.

Congratulations, and please contact me with you mailing address. I have something very important for you.

Chapter 1: Spark and Smoke will begin very soon.
This is a long story, kittens.
Best get comfortable.

11:56 a.m.

“What am I supposed to do with these?”

He pulled the first card off the top of the deck, almost like a reflex. Queen of Diamonds.

“Same thing you always do with everything I give you.” There was no humor in the man’s voice or answer.

He replaced the Queen and covered the deck with a menu. Something about the swords.

“I don’t know.” He sounded more tired than he meant to.

“I know you don’t.” That smile.

The waitress was returning with more coffee. The pot with the orange spout. God damn it.

“I need more.” Even more tired this time.

“I just gave you more,” the man replied.

“That’s not what I—”

“More coffee?” The waitress. She sounded less tired than she looked.

“No. I mean yes. Please. But regular, please.”

“This is regular.”

“But the spout is orange.”

“And I’m wearing a name badge that says ‘Tina’, but that’s really my middle name.”

The man across the table raised his eyebrows and laughed. Genuinely. It sounded amazing and horrible at the same time. “Tina” didn’t seem to have an opinion either way. She poured the coffee and went back to her straws.

He moved the menu away from the cards. The man across the table slid out of the booth and stood.

“I’ll be back this way soon. January 15th.” The man was looking at the cards, and for a moment looked almost sad. Well, more sad than the man usually looked. And before there was time to think about that, the man was gone.

He turned the cards over to look at the bottom card. Eight of It Didn’t Matter.

All the magic I have known, I’ve had to make myself.

A word before we set off down this path once more:
Everything you will need to follow this story through Chapter One will be put here.
And left here.
The Prologue was very much about giving and taking away, about rewarding those who sought answers for their own reasons when no reasons or questions were provided. About feeling around in a dark room you just entered rather than turning around and leaving the darkness and what it holds to itself.
Chapter One changes that.
Come back often, but the threat of vanishing information has been lifted for this chapter. Because this chapter is very much about coming back when you are provided a reason to do so.

sfmola:

Something came in the mail today.
A simple brown package with no return address.
I unwrapped it carefully to find a wooden box with a sliding lid labeled
“The Blue Key”
I slid the lid off to reveal an iPod and a note that said
“Keep this safe. -M”
When I turned it on, I saw it had a blue background and only the messaging and camera apps in the dock of the home screen.
When I connected it to my network, I got a text immediately
“Did this arrive safely?”

Find the Starlight is a story that began a long time ago, but the telling of this story began here. Start there and scroll down. The updates are in chronological order.

The major scenes of the story so far are here.

This story is being told here in chapters. The Prologue: Black and White was told through a series of images placed on this site over the span of a few months.

At the end of that Prologue, @sfmola was awarded the Blue Key for solving a puzzle that was presented to everyone who followed the story.

Chapter One: Spark and Smoke just began. The story now moves from virtual images to mysterious boxes being shipped around the world.

Here are the people who have received one so far.

If you are just joining us, you've arrived just in time. Go back to the beginning and see what has happened so far.Everyone everywhere has a chance to be part of this experience.

There will be many chapters, and some of those chapters will contain much, much different items and experiences.

If you have questions, you're not alone.

You can also follow along by tracking the #findthestarlight tag here.

Thank you for visiting.
